Who is Sippora?
Sippora is the Hebrew name for Amy Meyers meaning
Pretty Bird.
Amy was born with the art gift, but did not know
how to apply it . As her parents recall," She drew on everything
with anything at a very early age. She would draw on the furniture,
walls, or whatever she could get her hand on. Paper and canvas was
not enough."
At the age of thirteen, Amy began getting involved
with architects and designers in the remodeling and decorating of
her parents home. It was at this time when Amy decided this is what
she wanted to do the rest of life. She found her calling.
After graduating high school, Amy attended The
University of North Texas, Denton, Texas. At the time it was the
only accreted school in Texas for Interior Design. Amy graduated
with a bachelors in Housing and Home Furnishings Interior
Design and two minors: (1) Architectural Engineering and (2) Business.
After graduation, Amy went to work for Furguson
Enterprise Kitchen and Bath Gallery in Houston, Texas. There
she specialized in kitchens and baths for almost three years. The
next four years, Amy spent her time at Cierra furniture as their
head designer.
In May of 2000, Amy took a trip to Africa with
a group of friends for a three week photo safari vacation. She never
dreamt this trip would have changed her life forever. She came back
to the states feeling more spiritual and having a larger meaning
of life. She felt there was something larger and greater calling
out to her, but wasnt sure what it was. So the only thing
Amy could do at this time of her life was to take the chance and
quit her successful job and go out and find her next calling. Everyone
thought she was crazy except for Amy. She spent the next six months
traveling and soul searching. At the beginning of the seventh month,
money began to run a little short, so, Amy did the one thing she
never wanted to do. She went to her dad, not for money, but for
a job. Taking a forty thousand dollar cut in pay, Amy started working
for her father running the Pawn Shop. What a different world Amy
had gotten her self into. Once again, everyone thought she was crazy
for doing this. As time went on, Amy started bringing in Moroccan,
Turkish and Mexican imports and she started running her interior
design business out of the Pawn Shop, and her business was beginning
to grow.
After sixty-four years of a family run Pawn Shop
business, Amys father came to her and said, OK. This
is the deal. I want out of the Pawn Shop. Your business is growing.
You can either find yourself another job or you can do something
with the building. Without a thought, Amy said, Give
me the building. I wont disappoint you.
After six tiring weeks of heavy duty cleaning,
painting, and some remodeling, on April 5, 2003, Sippora was born.
